Hanok construction begins with choosing the site and ends with caring for the surrounding after the house is built. It is also characterized by various rituals that are performed so that the house can be stabilized and the landlord can be blessed at every important stage of the construction. Among them, the framework completion ceremony, which is held while raising the top purlin, is the most important ritual in building construction. It means that the main structure of the house has been completed, and it is a ritual to recognize the hard work of the artisans. The order of construction and ritual is as follows.

① Choose house site :
Determine the size and orientation of the house according to the natural geography. Location and orientation ritual is performed.

Design the building to suit the needs and the surrounding climate.

③ Foundation work :
Trim the space for the building. When the first land is sold, the ground reading ritual is performed.

④ Lay column base stone :
Place the column base stone on the place where the column will be placed. Column foundation ritual is performed.

⑤ Timber work :
It is the work of trimming the wood into each necessary part. The timber work ritual is performed.

⑥ Assembly :
After the pillars are erected, beams and purlins are placed, roof parts such as rafters and shingle are assembled. Through this process, the basic structure of a hanok is completed. The erecting column and framework completion rituals are performed.

⑦ Connect roof tiles :
After the roof tile worker has thickly piled up wood and soil on the completed roof structure, convex and concave roofing tiles are laid.

⑧ Place plastering wall :
After all structural parts are stable, install the wall stud.

⑨ Clay wall :
The clay wall worker spreads a mixture of mud, white clay, and quicklime mixed with straw on the wall.

⑩ Finishing work :
Ondol, Maru, railing, windows and door construction is carried out.

⑪ Care for surrounding :
Flower beds, jangdokdae, fences, and gates are installed and decorated around the building.

Enter the house on a set day based on Feng Shui. House entry ritual is performed.
